The Berlin Walks' team favorite places to eat out
Sabine: Fritz & Co, Wittenbergplatz, South-East corner, Berlin-Schöneberg
Just a small stand (look for the disco ball), but serving delicious French Fries/chips made with freshly-cut potatoes – just the right snack after a stroll on the Ku’damm. Do it like the Germans and add mayonnaise or be adventurous and try their wonderful peanut sauce.
Hannah: Com Viet, Münzstrasse 3, Berlin-Mitte
Com Viet is a hole-in-the-wall location serving the best Vietnamese food in the city (for next to nothing!). My personal favorites are the fresh spring rolls and the Pho soup, either with chicken or tofu. Don't underestimate the soup; it is hearty and comes in big bowls! Friendly service, and you'll be hard pressed to eat more than ¤5 worth of food (NB no reservations)
Nick: Weihenstephaner, Neue Promenade 5, (right opposite Hackescher Markt station and 50 meters away from our Meeting Point East), Berlin-Mitte, Tel. 2576 2871
The only outpost of "Weihenstephan", the Bavarian State Brewery, outside Bavaria itself! Try the roast pork and dumplings (Krustenbraten) which comes with a cabbage and bacon salad; finish off with an excellent Apple Strudel. You can choose between six different beer varieties to wash it all down with.
Torben: Schnitzelei, Röntgenstrasse 7, Berlin-Charlottenburg, Tel. 3470 2778
German food with a modern twist presented in a hip way. You can, for instance, order a variety of German tapas.
Nick: Kartoffelkeller, Albrechtstrasse 14b, Berlin-Mitte (near Friedrichstrasse station), Tel. 2828548
Potato dishes in every shape and form, and a good choice if one of you is vegetarian but the other would like a traditional pork roast!
Mort: Hasir (5 locations in Berlin; here are two of them!) Oranienburgerstrasse 4, Berlin-Mitte, Tel. 2804 1616 OR Nürnberger Str. 46, Berlin-Wilmersdorf (close to the Memorial Church), Tel. 217 77 74.
Simply the best Turkish food in Berlin!
Edo: Yellow Sunshine, Wiener Strasse 19, Berlin-Kreuzberg (near Görlitzer Bhf. U-Bahn, U1), Tel. 6959 8720
Proudly claiming to be Germany's first “vegetarian fast food restaurant”, their menu offers a lot more than just "fast food"! With cheap prices and located across a park in the heart of multi-culti Kreuzberg, this is the place to find a vegetarian German sausage.
Mort: Kuchi, Kantstrasse 30, Berlin–Charlottenburg, Tel. 3150 7815
The very best sushi in Berlin!
Nick: Francucci's, Kurfürstendamm 90, Berlin-Charlottenburg, Tel. 323 3318
Authentic Italien Cooking. Named by the Italian President, in 1998, as being one of the 25 best Italian restaurants outside Italy! Busy so you need to book! Opens 4.00pm.
Kristin: Morgenland, Skalitzer Strasse 35, Berlin-Kreuzberg, Tel. 611 3291
The best Brunch on Saturdays and Sundays (till 4 pm): an all-you-can-eat Buffet, with an amazing range of hot and cold food…a very popular place!
Sarah: Anna Blume, Kollwitzstrasse 38, Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg, Tel. 4404 8749
A cafe, restaurant and flower shop all in one, Anna Blume serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, with flowers available any time! With a delectable selection of cakes, a good place to sample “Kaffee und Kuchen”. Close to Kollwitz Square in trendy Prenzlauer Berg, and also great for kids!
Sabine: Istoria, Kollwitzstrasse 64, Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg, Tel. 4405 0208
Another great Brunch venue for Saturdays and Sundays, close to Anna Blume (but right opposite Kollwitz Square). Reservations recommended.
Nick: for a special occasion Restaurant Vau (pron. "fow" as in "cow") Jägerstr. 54/55 Berlin-Mitte (East side of Gendarmenmarkt), Tel. 202 9730
Michelin starred, Vau has been a top-ranked restaurant in Berlin for years. Its lunch menu is a bargain. Simply outstanding.
