We want to make a difference

My name is Lars, and I am the owner of Original Berlin Walks.
My love for Africa started in 1997 when I first travelled to Kenya. Since then, whenever I have the chance, I go back trying to see as much of this beautiful continent as possible. I share this passion through my photos on Instagram: follow my account pics_of_Africa to get a glimpse of the beautiful landscapes, amazing animals and stunningly friendly people. The magic of Africa with its inhabitants, rich culture and the breathtaking nature and wildlife gets me every time anew.
Tourism in Africa is still in its early stages, with only a few exceptions. Jobs in the tourism sector are highly sought after because they are relatively well-paid and stable. However, most people are excluded from these opportunities, as the cost of vocational training is unaffordable for the vast majority, and many children must work at home after finishing primary school to support their families.
As a business owner, I have been trying for years to give something back to society here in Germany — for example, through donations to local organizations such as the Berliner Stadtmission, as well as by organizing and conducting free trips for senior citizens in cooperation with Herzwerk. Herzwerk is a project of the German Red Cross that actively works against poverty in old age.
Since 2024, we have been supporting the association Alavanyo e.V., which is deeply committed to sustainable development work in Ghana. Its current project focuses on building a school in Saviefe, located in the Volta Region. The goal is to provide children from disadvantaged families with access to education and to open up long-term prospects for them locally. In the future, the school plans to offer courses in sustainable tourism.
The association works closely with the local community to ensure that the school is not only built, but can also operate sustainably. In November 2025 the school project has recieved In the coming months, we will share photos of the construction progress here to provide insight into the development of the project.
Education is the key to a better future, and we are proud to be part of this important initiative together with Alavanyo e.V.
We were also delighted to support the non-profit organization Africa Amini Alama in Tanzania from 2021 to 2024. The organization is dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged Maasai communities in the Arusha region near Mount Kilimanjaro.
Founded in 2007 by two doctors, a mother-daughter team, the organization initially established a clinic to provide free medical care to the local population. Since then, schools and vocational training centers have been created, all of which are officially recognized by the state. Since 2021, the program has also offered training in sustainable tourism, combining language courses, theoretical foundations, and practical experience in local businesses. Sustainability plays a central role in the curriculum, which gives graduates excellent employment prospects.
We have sponsored the training of two young participants, Abishai and Irene, who receive not only their education through the program but also medical care and meals.
