Berlin in 2 Days: A Practical Itinerary for First-Time Visitors

Two days in Berlin are enough for a first taste of its historic sights, museums and neighbourhoods. Choose a few worthwhile stops and leave room between them. Fit this itinerary around confirmed tour and attraction bookings. Information checked: 8 September 2026.
Your two-day Berlin plan
Day one: a Discover Berlin walking tour, then a museum or pre-booked Reichstag dome visit and dinner.
Day two: a street art tour or the East Side Gallery, then time by the Spree.
Book first: walking tours and timed attractions. Leave meals and other stops flexible.
Day one: Berlin’s history and main sights
Start with the Discover Berlin tour
Have breakfast near Hackescher Markt and give yourself time to find the meeting point. Bring water, comfortable shoes and a layer for changeable weather.
Our Discover Berlin Walking Tour connects landmarks with their history, including the Brandenburg Gate, Holocaust Memorial and Berlin Wall sites. Allow approximately 3.5–4 hours and around 5 km of walking. Meet outside Starbucks at Hackescher Markt, Neue Promenade 3. Check departures for your date and arrive before the booked start. The refreshment and bathroom break is a pause during the walk; plan a proper meal separately.

Afternoon: choose a museum or the Reichstag
After lunch, choose one substantial visit. Trying to fit a museum and the dome between a long walk and dinner makes the day unnecessarily rushed.
The Pergamonmuseum is closed in 2026. Its partial reopening is scheduled for 4 June 2027. The separate Pergamonmuseum. Das Panorama offers an alternative; it is a different venue and experience. Check opening hours and tickets before booking.
Use the official Pergamonmuseum visitor page for reopening updates. If you prefer to stay outdoors, enjoy the Museum Island surroundings.

Visit the Reichstag dome
Reichstag dome admission is free, but registration is required. Book through the Bundestag and keep your confirmation. Check current closures and entry requirements before travelling.
Our Reichstag visiting guide explains the booking options. Choose a time that leaves a generous buffer after your walking tour, lunch and travel. A dome booking is separate from your walking-tour ticket and does not automatically include an interior parliamentary tour.
Evening: dinner and time to unwind
Head back to your accommodation for a break, then choose dinner close to where you want to spend the evening. Kreuzberg is an option for a neighbourhood walk and food; reserve a table if there is somewhere you particularly want to try.
Keep the evening flexible. A relaxed meal can be a better end to a busy first day than a tightly packed nightlife plan. Check your journey home before setting off.

Day two: street art and a slower afternoon
Breakfast, then Berlin’s creative side
Take a slower start and choose breakfast around your booked departure. Our Berlin Street Art Walking Tour explores murals, stencils and the stories behind them. Allow three hours and bring the required AB public-transport ticket. The current meeting point is outside Starbucks at Hackescher Markt, Neue Promenade 3; check the tour page for available dates and times.
The route changes as artworks appear and disappear. Treat photographs as examples of Berlin’s street art, rather than a promise of the exact murals you will see.

Prefer to explore independently?
Choose the East Side Gallery as your main art stop instead. Our East Side Gallery visiting guide will help you plan. Leave time to look at the paintings and reflect on the Wall’s history, then continue with a relaxed walk by the Spree.
Leave the last afternoon open
Choose a café, a riverside walk or another neighbourhood that caught your attention. If you have a train or flight to catch, make that your fixed appointment and work backwards. Two memorable days are better than a checklist you cannot finish.
